Because raising healthy children isn’t just about nourishing their bodies, here are some prayers to get you started praying for your children. As parents we should be praying for our children daily. This will give you some prayers to help get you in the habit as well as scripture you can memorize and pray over your children.
5 Prayers to Pray Over Our Children
- Lord, captivate my children’s hearts. Show them the depravity of their sin and how much they need a Savior. Open their hearts to accept your unconditional love. Break any and all generational strongholds that may be rooted in their hearts so they can fully receive the love you have to give. Let them grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Let them know this love that surpasses knowledge so it can transform their hearts and minds.
Ephesians 3:16-19 “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
- Father, protect my children’s minds. They are surrounded by so many visuals and pressures from our society and world. Don’t allow anything that is not of You to take root in their minds. Restore and renew their minds daily. Set your thoughts, dreams and truth in the forefront and command their emotions to follow behind. Do not allow our children to be swayed by the ideologies of this world but rather guide them to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.
Ephesians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
- Lord, surround my children with deep honest friendships – relationships that point them back to You. Raise them up knowing that community was created by You as a way that we come to know Your heart more. Give them people who will be honest, kind and true to them and show them how to do the same for others. Protect their hearts when people let them down and remind them that you forgive so they can forgive. Give them discernment to choose friends wisely, keeping close those who encourage them to know You more.
Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
John 15:12-13 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
- Lord, these children were created in Your image. Ground them in the truth that they are a reflection of their Father. Let them always look to You for their identity, and not to the world. Don’t let them get wrapped up in what others think of them or desire for the approval of others. Keep the web of lies about their appearance, talents, intelligence and personality far away from their hearts and minds. Set in them, from a young age, a desire to know You and to see themselves the way you do.
Psalm 17:15 “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.”
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Psalm 139:13-14 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,I know that full well.”
- Lord, You know the calling You’ve placed on the lives of my children and You promise You are with them wherever they go. I ask you today to give them courage to walk wherever You lead them. Remove all doubts and fears and fill them with a confidence that trusts You no matter what. Protect them as they follow Your calling, using their lives to bring glory to Your name above all else. Let these children be world changers and Kingdom growers all for the sake of bringing others to know Your unconditional love for them.
